Pay Attention to Body Language

Learn more than proper grammar in negotiations. Positioning at the negotiation table and proper body language are important, too. Are the negotiators far from each other across a table, or are they working side by side? Are they leaning in physically, demonstrating interest and active participation in the negotiating process or are they disengaged, leaning back in the chair? Or are they doing so simply to listen? And if they are disengaged in some way, might they become even more disengaged, with legs crossed, arms crossed, and hands over their mouths? These could be red flags indicating that negotiations are not proceeding well.
